Got up at 5am today (ack!) and left the house around 6.15 to go to a meeting about our midwifery bill for the upcoming state legislative session. Met with the House Speaker Pro-tem, the House Majority Floor Leader, our House sponsoring Rep, and one Senator. The meeting went well; they are all legislators that have been supportive (the Floor Leader really put his neck on the line for us last year). It was good for them to get face to face with homebirth families from their districts, as well as those of us from the statewide organization.
I also got to see a dear friend who served us as a doula for our one hospital birth and ask her if, once we get midwives legal here, she would be willing to come the distance to our home. She said yes, for special friends. 🙂 So, prayerfully, our next Blessing (who isn’t on the way yet, btw) will get to be born legally and safely at home! /moose
Good luck with the bill! I am so impressed at how active you are in your community and with such a personal issue as childbirth. Good Luck!
