Here is the majority of our winter squash harvest (some have already been eaten). Four cookie sheets of pie pumpkins are baking now; I plan to bake, puree and freeze most of them over the next week or so, saving some seeds for next year and roasting the rest. What a great result from $6 in heirloom seeds! Kudos to Baker Creek Seeds.

Neat pic and what a wonderful harvest. That is one huge butternut squash!!
What a beautiful congregation of squash! Yummy eating and preserving!BTW- Are you familiar w scallop (patty pan) squash? I don't see it often, but the time a friend shared some from her garden, I thought it was delish. and it had a distinguished flavor. Just wondering.
Laurie, I'm not familiar with that kind… I'll have to go look it up. 🙂
oooo they're pretty! (thanks google image search) Now off to Baker Creek to make sure they have them 🙂
Oh! I see that pattypan is a summer squash! And speaking of squash, how do you control squash bugs? They are about enough to dishearten me altogether! Ick!
Laurel, your sister-in-love really likes patty pan squash.
Thanks for the clarification; I was feeling bummed that I couldn't find them at Baker Creek. But they're there. :-)We actually didn't have squash bugs this year. No pesticides, either. I think we were just blessed!
Ooo, that's good know, Mama. Maybe if we grow it next year I'll have the chance to get some to her. And I bet she'd teach me how to fix it, too!
Forget cooking – I'd love to just decorate with all those!
